Crochet Ragg Cardigan

Classic duster style in versatile Mary Maxim Ragg yarn will flatter every outfit.

Here is a special treat for everyone who loves to crochet a sweater, but always sees more knit options. The trends in sweaters now are longer, looser and comfy, and this cardigan hits on all of those!

A deep ribbing at the bottom sets off the fashionable knee-length duster style. Pair it with jeans and boots as we have done, or add it to your professional look for both warmth and fashion.

The sweater is crocheted with our Mary Maxim Starlette Ragg yarn, available in four classic colors. Our Ragg yarn is made of three strands twisted together, two in a soft natural and the third in the named color. This spin gives the yarn the classic look of country living. We chose the Denim Ragg for our model, but any of the other colors, Black, Brown or Grey, will be flattering with their soft color twists.

The sweater is worked in the easy linen stitch. Once you get in the rhythm of the two-row repeat down, the pieces work up quickly. After a little shaping at the waist, the Back is worked straight to the shoulders, as there is no shaping the Back for the loose, relaxed drop shoulder sleeves.

Pocket linings are worked separately, then inserted onto the front for the sleek set-in look. Gentle neckline shaping along the open front makes for a great fit.

The drop shoulder sleeves do not have any cap shaping, so the pattern is extra easy to complete.

When working the ribbing at bottom of sweater and sleeves, you make front and back post stitches to create the look of knit ribbing. This gives the pieces an easy stretchy feel and elasticity. After the pieces are sewn together, the ribbing is repeated up the length of the fronts and across the back for a neat, finished look.
